March 15 – Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus
On the eve of Constitution Day, employees of LWO and Exxon IT gathered at the Belarus Cinema to watch the “The Constitution of the Republic of Belarus” movie.
The Constitution is the foundation of life in our country. It may seem like something distant, discussed in high-level offices, but in reality, it’s right there: when you sign an employment contract, when neighbors dispute a fence, or when you want to understand whether you have the right to do something.
Knowing your rights is not about attending legal courses or reading lengthy books. It is about staying confident at the right moment and avoiding unnecessary mistakes.
This is especially relevant for us as an IT company. Specifically:
Article 28 – Protection of Personal Data and Privacy
Working with databases, developing applications, analyzing data? Every user has a constitutional right to the protection of their personal data. A data breach or negligent storage is no longer just a technical issue–it is a violation of the law.
Article 34 – Right to Information
Developing content platforms, services, or public products? What can and cannot be published is not a matter of team preference. It is a legal issue that applies to everyone, including developers and product owners.
Article 51 – Intellectual Property
The code wrote by you is the result of your creative work and is protected by law. Copying someone else’s code without a license is a violation of the law. When working under a contract, it is important to understand who owns the rights to what you create: you or your employer.
Article 41 – Right to Work and Fair Conditions
An offer, an employment contract, overtime, termination terms–all of this is regulated by law. Knowing your rights helps avoid difficult situations for both you and your employer.
We invited young people and employees’ children to watch the movie. Soon they will have to navigate their first job, housing rental, and other adult decisions. It is better to approach these matters with an understanding of how everything works in our country. The movie proved to be engaging and dynamic–far from dry, theoretical content. It discusses the law through real-life stories and situations that every Belarusian can relate to.
